So for my next few posts I want to make sure that there is a basic understanding of fundamental economic concepts:

MEANS OF PRODUCTION

The means of production includes two broad categories of objects: instruments of labor (tools, factories, infrastructure, etc.) and subjects of labor (natural resources and raw materials). If creating a good, people operate on the subjects of labor, using the instruments of labor, to create a product; or, stated another way, labour acting on the means of production creates a good.

FACTORS OF PRODUCTION

Factors of production are defined as labour, subjects of labor, and instruments of labor: the term is equivalent to means of production plus labor. The factors of production are often listed in economic writings derived from the classical school as "land, labour and capital". The term "productive forces" is often used equivalently with "factors of production.

MODE OF PRODUCTION

A mode of production includes the means of production used by a given society, such as factories and other facilities, machines, and raw materials. It also includes labor and the organization of the labor force. The mode of production refers to the type of ownership over the means of production. It is the dominant way in which production is organized.

For instance, "capitalism" is the name for the capitalist mode of production in which the means of production are owned privately by a small class (the bourgeoisie) who profits off the labour of the working class (the proletariat). Communism is a mode of production in which the means of production are not owned by anyone, but shared in common, without class based exploitation.

RELATIONS OF PRODUCTION

The term relations of production refers to the relationship between those who own the means of production (the capitalists or bourgeoisie) and those who do not (the workers or the proletariat).

IN SUMMARY

Means of Production: Instruments of Labor + Subjects of Labor

Factors of Production: Means of Production + Labor

Mode of Production: Ownership and Organization over the Means and or Factors of Production

Relations of Production: Relations between laborers and owners of the means of production

In my next posts I will go over the common themes of "Means of Production" "Factors of Production" "Mode of Production" and "Relations of Production" in the Kmtyw context. Kmtyw economies were very diverse in the Pre Colonial Period but there are common themes of property ownership and production modes that need to be discussed.

This is revelant to the topic at hand because if we understand how these towns were organized we will understand how the Black entrepreneurs in them were able to organize maintain and manage their wealth. Most Black capitalists will respond with the typical "they got a loan and built capital blah blah blah BS". I think this topic is important because we must understand the true history of how these historical events actually went down.

The economic philosophy of the Yoruba and the valuation of socio cultural utility over profit accumulation go hand in hand. Kmtyw economies always utilized socio cultural utility to generate wealth. eureurasiaan economies utilize secularized profit accumulation.

Pre colonial Kmtyw economies did not have the concept of Private Property or private ownership of land, rather they functioned using the concept of a Common Pool of Resources where social relations and occupational function were valued over private access.
