Amazing the defense mechanisms we use to rationalize our behavior.  When I jump on Black men about chasing after women that don't look like our mothers, invariably, I get "What about Black women with non-Black men?"  Let's look at why I am harder on the brothers.  First things first, there are a lot more Black women than Black men.  Take away the Black men who are gay and don't want a woman of any kind, take away the Black men who simply don't want to be with Black women, take away the Black men who are already married, take away the vast numbers of Black men in prison, take away those Black men who financially can't even or won't even take care of themselves, take away those Black men serving abroad in the military, take away the Black men in poor health, take away the Black men strung out on drugs. How many of us are left?  What should a sister do?  What are her options?  As a Black man I feel a sense of shame and disgust when I see a Black man with a non-Black woman.  I think about the times when the Black man could not protect and defend the Black woman.  And now we abandon her?  Have we no pride?  Have we no shame?  And do our individual desires trump the well-being and continuity of the community that produced us?
