My first trip to the South Pacific was to Fiji in 2000. I had a great time. I loved it there. As I was waiting for my flight from Nadi, Fiji to return to the US I thought that I heard my name. I distinctly thought that I heard somebody call "Dr. Rashidi." I paid no attention. Then, I heard it again. I heard "Dr. Rashidi." But I did not know anybody in Fiji, so I ignored it. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder and a young Black man asked me, "Are you Runoko Rashidi?" Well, to make a long story short it turns out that he was from the Solomon Islands and he had heard me give a lecture at the University of Hawaii. He told me that I had made all of the South Pacific students at the lecture feel so proud, so proud to be Black. And he he told me that they all believed that they came from Kmt. And they were proud of it!
