I've read the book Asafo:A Warrior's Guide to Manhood,by Mwalimu Baruti,and it got me thinking..can the love and patience of a sista liberate the minds of our enslaved men?
If that brother wants to be free. You can take a horse to water though you can not make him drink. Brothers need tools and Jegna's i.e. role models of liberation. Many brothers need to see liberators in action. Too many liberators are behind, undercover. I think liberators need to make themselves accessible. Right now many more are going to follow behind Negro's like Obama as an example.
Sistahs can provide a lot toward liberating an enslaved brotha provided they are moving toward liberation with commitment and unselfish love. The biggest move toward liberation for any of us is to first recognize that we are enslaved and the make a commitment each day toward breaking the chains that bind us spiritually, emotionally, economically and on and on. Most of us refuse to do the work so Sistahs who seek out liberated men usually add to the problem because they come with more baggage and often just want a man in the cause.
I do agree with this statement. Liberation is not a one-way street,it is hard work and discipline for both parties.

I think a woman can liberate a man. I think a man can liberate a woman. I think a man can liberate a man. I think a woman can liberate a woman. I think a person can liberate his/ herself. Ayne no liberation taking place either way if the person in question not only doesn't want to be liberated but doesn't even realize that he/ she is imprisoned.
And it seems there may be more needed than love & patience. I may be wrong here, but compatibility may be an issue IF LOVE, and everything that encompasses it in a person's understanding of it, doesn't include the ability to adapt to certain of our idiosyncrasies.
Even serious illnesses nowadays are more so treated as an issue of compatibility. There are those who don't think that Crohn's disease, Leukemia or cancer in general, dysthymia and so on is either something they can deal with even with foreknowledge or something that they signed up for if it happens after the relationship has begun. And that can be an intimate relationship or a friendship.
I mention these things because they are part of the reality for some of us who are imprisoned wanting to be liberated and those of us currently on the path toward liberation.
For some of us it's simple. For some of us it's complicated.
I'm the "old school, there for you through thick and thin, help you out any way that I can and if I can't then I'll try to find the one who can" kinda guy. Yet I do require at least a basic level of consciousness with which to work. Some good ol' fashioned common sense would be nice.
